In 2014-1015, Mardin Artuklu University Midyat Vocational School Jewelery and Jewelry Design Department was opened.The education period of the Department of Jewellery and Jewellery Design is 4 semesters and the language of instruction is Turkish. The Department of Jewellery and Jewellery Design has naturally focused on filigree silversmithing, whose homeland is Midyat, and the number of masters is decreasing day by day. Students of the Department of Jewellery and Jewellery Design will be able to receive the necessary art education that will reveal their observation, analysis and creativity while gaining the basic knowledge and skills required by the profession in the workshop courses.
It is important to protect the national wealth that exists in our country and to spread our culture by multiplying them. In our country, which has various values in various fields, especially in handicrafts, qualified workforce is needed to transfer and renew these values.The aim of the department is to train qualified individuals in design who believe in the necessity of an intellectual effort in society and art, as well as to train skilled craftsmen in their field, and to train a workforce that will document the examples of our traditional handicrafts such as filigree making and production, especially within the scope of jewelery and jewelry design, which is one of our regional handicrafts, and transfer the produced knowledge to today's technology. At the same time, our aim is to bring self-confident, qualified filigree masters to the country's economy who will establish their own filigree workshops, produce or provide training in existing filigree workshops.
In order to graduate from the program, students must take 126 ECTS credits. Additionally, in order to graduate from the program, students must complete their summer internship of 30 working days and 240 hours at the end of the second semester.
