SYRIAC LANGUAGE AND CULTURE

The education and training staff of our department consists of 1 associate professor and 2 assistant professors. In our department, during the master's education with 1 + 2 thesis, the education starts from the alphabet of the Classical and Modern Syriac Language, and then all the grammar-syntax rules are taught after all this knowledge is reinforced with text lessons. Grammar and text lessons are naturally held with the participation of students. In text lessons, in the first grades, students are able to practice their translation skills with simple texts for this purpose. In the upper classes, the translation of the works of various authors is given. In addition to these courses, there are Syriac history, Syriac theological, and cultural courses to cover all graduate education.

In our training program, there are also courses required to acquire the formation of the ancient Syriac Language and Literature such as Bible in Aramaic Language, Bible in Hebrew Language, Turoyo Dialect, Syriac Histography, Hermeneutics of Bible, Syriac Theo-Philosophical Discussions, and Gargography Science.

The aim of our department is to ensure to comprehend and internalize the Syriac Language and cultural civilization, which is one of the building blocks of modern civilization. Moreover, with the given classical educational formation, the department aims to gain individuals equipped with modern thinking, rational and humanist views.

Because the elements such as respect for the individual, theo-philosophy, transfer of knowledge among civilizations and rationality are concepts that are born and developed in the Syriac world. A second goal of our department is to contribute to the researches of the rich history and archaeological history of our country, which has witnessed many civilizations.
