Dara

30 km from Mardin. It is located in the Oguz village in the southeast. Dara, one of the most important cities
of ancient Mesopotamia, has become a small village settlement today.
The city of Dara, which consists of structures carved into the rock, spreads over a wide area with its surroundings,
and the rock tombs in the east of the city extend to Kuruçay. The city, whose perimeter is protected by a wall of 4 km,
has two gates opening to the south and north. The inner castle is in the north of the city and 50 m. It was built on the
 upper plain of the hill.
Remains of churches, palaces, bazaars, dungeons, armory and water dams can still be seen in the city. In the north
of the village, a magnificent water dam was built by carving the rocks descending to the south, and there is still
water in the dam. In addition, cave houses dating back to the Late Roman period are found around the village.
