EXCAVATIONS:
Archaeological excavations are among the most important scientific activities that shed light on human history. Through these studies, it becomes possible to gain information about the social, cultural, economic, and architectural structures of past civilizations. The excavations of Hasankeyf and Mardin Castle, conducted by the Department of Art History at Mardin Artuklu University, offer significant insights not only into the region but also into the rich history of Mesopotamia.
Hasankeyf stands out as a multi-layered settlement with a history spanning thousands of years, while Mardin Castle is a strategic structure that reflects the transformations the city has undergone throughout history. The ongoing excavations in these areas reveal the historical continuity of the region, the traces of different civilizations, and the evolution of cultural heritage. At the same time, these excavations are of great importance not only for producing scientific data but also for preserving cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations.
Excavation works carried out in historical sites such as Hasankeyf and Mardin Castle serve as bridges that bring the wisdom of the past into the present. The scientific contribution of Mardin Artuklu University in this field offers valuable support not only to the academic community but also to national and international efforts aimed at preserving cultural heritage.
