Youth Forum at MAU: Young People from All Over Turkey Gathered for a Sustainable Future

Mardin Artuklu University hosted the “Sustainable Agriculture, Clean Food and Water Resilience: EU–Turkey Youth Forum” organized by the European Union Delegation to Turkey, hosting young people from 18 different cities of Turkey on campus for three days.

At the forum, held from November 26–28, young people discussed the deepening global challenges surrounding the agriculture-food-water triangle and developed joint solutions for a sustainable future.

In his opening remarks, Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Lokman Toprak stated that the EU's "Farm to Table" strategy offers a critical roadmap for agricultural transformation and highlighted the forum's value for future generations.

As part of the program, a panel titled "Shaping the Future of Agriculture" was held, moderated by Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Aktaş, Faculty Member of Kızıltepe Agricultural Sciences and Technologies. Academics and young participants addressed sustainable production, climate resilience, and food security from various perspectives.

MAÜ student and Water Ambassador Halil İbrahim Kural also spoke at the forum, emphasizing the responsibilities young people can assume in water management. Kural noted, "Water is not just a resource; it is the most sensitive bridge between us and future generations."

At the conclusion of the three-day forum, it was emphasized that the active and informed participation of young people in discussions on agriculture, water, and food provides hope for Turkey's sustainability goals.

Such programs were evaluated as raising public awareness by strengthening young people's participation in decision-making processes.
