The event titled "Gaza’s Epistemological Al-Aqsa Flood in Mardin: Academician Meeting," hosted online by Mardin Artuklu University (MAU), addressed the impact of the events in Gaza on universities, academics, and students. During the meeting, which was attended by academics from Gaza, participants evaluated the current state of higher education and opportunities for support to sustain academic life.
One of the most striking moments of the program was when academics joining from Gaza shared their views while connecting to the broadcast under dire conditions, lacking electricity and basic working facilities. Despite all the hardships, the academics' efforts to generate knowledge and maintain academic communication directly highlighted the situation facing higher education in Gaza.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Mardin Artuklu University Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özcoşar drew attention to the resistance shown by the people of Gaza and stated that they were working on ways to support Gaza in the field of higher education. "We are asking ourselves how we can collaborate with Gaza and provide support to Gaza in academic and higher education terms," Özcoşar said.
During the meeting, where the firsthand experiences of academics in Gaza were heard, discussions focused on the destruction suffered by universities, the continuity of academic output, students' educational processes, and the fostering of international academic solidarity.
Plans were made to document and compile the views and requests expressed during the program into a report and to share them within academic circles in Turkey and internationally. The initiative aims to contribute to the development of academic solidarity and support mechanisms designed to revitalize higher education in Gaza.
