
Onur Sürek, a student at Mardin Artuklu University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, has reached the finals of the Antalya International Golden Orange Film Festival's Cinema Schools Student Film Competition with his documentary film.
The finalists of the Film Schools Student Film Competition have been announced at the 62nd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, which is Türkiye’s most established and largest cinema event.
Onur Sürek, a student at the Radio, Television, and Cinema Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mardin Artuklu University, made it to the finals by ranking among the top 10 student films in Turkey with his documentary titled “Çukurova’s Black Bread (Çukurova’nın Kara Ekmeği),” which he directed. Onur Sürek, who will represent our region at the festival as the only student from the Southeastern and Eastern Anatolia Region to make it to the finals, said that his advisor was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yektanurşin Duyan, a faculty member at MAU's Faculty of Fine Arts.
Young director Onur Sürek stated that the documentary, which focuses on the life struggle and difficult working conditions of charcoal workers in the Çukurova region of Adana, was completed after 8 months and 22 days of intense work, and that he is proud to represent both his region and his university.
Onur Sürek also announced that he had been selected as one of the final 10 finalists in the Documentary Film Category of the Future Communicators Competition organized by TRT with his documentary film “Black Bread of Çukurova” and he also announced that the finalists’ awards ceremony will be held on October 15th at the TRT Headquarters in Ankara and will be broadcast live on TRT 2. Additionally, it was stated that the 62nd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival will be held in Antalya between October 24 and November 2, and the finalist films will be screened to audience during the festival. MAU University congratulated Onur Sürek, who made it to the finals in both categories, and wished him continued success.
