The Department of Religious Education organises its undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research around two core areas at the heart of Religious Education as a scholarly discipline.

Firstly, within the framework of the discipline's scientific nature, it examines the scope and objectives of Religious Education, its areas of study, research methods, foundations, and the processes by which it has become an established science.

Secondly, it analyses the historical development and current state of religious education in Turkey and around the world, together with the pedagogical approaches, curricula and methods characteristic of formal and non-formal settings. To this end, the Division conducts field studies in settings such as faculties of theology/Islamic studies, imam-hatip high schools and middle schools, the religious culture and ethics (DKAB) course, the presidency of religious affairs, and various civil society contexts. It documents its findings and offers recommendations for improvement.
