FUTURE SCENARIO OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MIDWIFERY

Future Perspective (2025–2030)

The Department of Midwifery at Mardin Artuklu University aims to train well-equipped midwives who possess the knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes required by contemporary healthcare, and who contribute to the protection, promotion, and empowerment of women’s, newborns’, and family health.
Globally rising birth rates, migration, disasters and crisis conditions, technological transformation, and diversification in healthcare services have made the midwifery profession more essential than ever.
Our department adopts, as a strategic priority, the training of midwives who can adapt to these changes, think scientifically, adhere to ethical principles, and demonstrate leadership competencies.

Quality in Education and Accreditation

The Department of Midwifery offers students opportunities to develop their professional skills through a strong academic staff and laboratory infrastructure that supports applied training.
A quality assurance approach is adopted throughout all educational processes. The department aims to initiate the program accreditation process in 2026 and complete it by 2030, to establish a culture of continuous improvement in education, and to strengthen the quality cycle based on feedback from students, graduates, and the workforce.

Innovation and Simulation in Education

Innovative teaching methods are implemented to enhance students’ professional competencies.
It is planned to develop simulation-based laboratory practices and integrate digital health technologies—such as tele-midwifery, virtual case scenarios, and artificial-intelligence-supported monitoring—into education.
Through these efforts, students are expected to graduate as well-prepared, competent professionals with advanced decision-making skills suitable for real-life conditions.

Research and Scientific Development

The Department of Midwifery encourages research activities in the fields of women’s health, childbirth management, breastfeeding, gender equality, and maternal-infant health.
Increasing the productivity of academic staff, supporting postgraduate research, and strengthening participation in national and international scientific projects are among the department’s primary goals.
By contributing to contemporary knowledge production in midwifery science, the department aims to enhance the quality of midwifery research in Türkiye.

Internationalization

The department aims to expand academic collaboration with midwifery schools in Europe and the Middle East.
Strengthening student and staff exchange programs (Erasmus+, Mevlana, Farabi, etc.), encouraging joint research projects, and supporting participation in international congresses are among the planned actions.
In this context, the department supports graduates in gaining globally competitive qualifications and taking active roles in international healthcare systems.

Community Engagement and Partnerships

The Department of Midwifery carries out education and research activities that are sensitive to regional health needs.
Community-based projects, awareness campaigns, and health education activities focused on enhancing maternal and infant health are regularly conducted.
Sustainable health services accessible to all segments of society are targeted through collaborations with public institutions, local governments, and non-governmental organizations.

Looking Ahead

The Department of Midwifery aims to train professionals who play an active role not only during childbirth but in all stages of a woman’s life cycle.
Graduates are encouraged to work as midwives in public and private sectors, advance into managerial and leadership positions, and pursue postgraduate education to contribute to scientific literature.
Our vision is to provide sustainable contributions to national and global healthcare systems by training midwives who are human-centered, scientifically grounded, evidence-based, ethically committed, and equipped with a global perspective.
