HISTORY PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

HISTORY

The Scientific Publications Coordination Office (BİLKOR) was established within MAU in 2025. It continues its activities in the field of academic publishing through a coordinator, two assistant coordinators, a commission, an advisory board, and several sub-working groups.

PURPOSE

The primary purpose of BİLKOR is to ensure that the publications produced within MAU are published in a qualified manner, following a certain harmony and set of standards. Without disregarding universal academic approaches and practices, BİLKOR aims to strengthen the intellectual journey of the geography to which it belongs, progressing from the local to the universal.

OBJECTIVES

MAU BİLKOR aims, in the first stage, to have at least half of the journals under its coordination indexed in internationally recognized databases. In addition, it seeks to maintain other publishing activities in a disciplined and systematic manner. Our Coordination Office has identified operating within the field of MAU periodicals and establishing “flagship journals” as its main objectives.

Regarding the journals published under MAU, BİLKOR has set the following high-level priorities to be achieved within two years (by December 2027):

Increasing the number of scientific journals from 10 to 15,

Increasing the number of journals indexed in TR Index from 3 to 6,

Increasing the number of journals indexed in SCOPUS from 0 to 3,

Increasing the number of journals indexed in WoS (Web of Science) from 0 to 1.

Furthermore, BİLKOR aims to:

Increase the number of articles published in each issue of journals not indexed in TR Index to 6,

Increase the number of articles published in each issue of journals indexed in TR Index to 12,

Increase the number of articles published in each issue of journals indexed in SCOPUS to 20,

Increase the number of articles published in each issue of journals indexed in WoS to 30.

In addition, BİLKOR seeks to:

Increase the number of journals indexed in AHCI and ESCI to 3,

Increase the number of books indexed in BKCI by 25%,

Raise all MAU journals to TR Index standards,

Prepare all journals for inclusion in at least six databases classified as “Other Indexes,”

Ensure that all faculties initiate at least one periodical publishing activity,

Encourage units/fields that already have a TR Index journal to launch a second journal,

Ensure that Research and Application Centers (collectively one) and Vocational Schools (collectively one) each initiate a periodical/journal publishing activity,

Increase the number of fully English and fully Arabic journals to 3, while preserving MAU’s multilingual structure and maintaining mixed-language journals,

Publish the first issue of Artuklu Syrica, planned as an annual journal, with 10 articles,

Promote the development and expansion of student-led journal publishing by receiving support from undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs within affiliated units.
