About the statement of the US government recognizing the Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel and the decision to move the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
As Mardin Artuklu University Senate we meet with a deep concern and also condemn fiercely this irresponsible decision to recognize the Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel and to move US embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem which caused a huge indignation among the international society especially in Islamic world.
This decision aiming the annexation of the Jerusalem which carries the al-Masjid al-Aqsa, the first qibla of Islam, in its hearth by the occupation forces and destabilization of the region will not only shake the universal stability but also will cause a religious and political conflict with an obscure future.
This inappropriate and wrong decision of the US government harming the ancient character and historical status of Jerusalem which is taken with an unlawful thought by ignoring the historical, conscience, humane and legal responsibilities cannot be accepted.
As a university which became the home for International Conference on Bayt al-Maqdis and al-Aqsa Mosque recently with a sense of honor regarding the Jeruselam—The City of Piece—as the holy home of all the Muslims, we condemn this wrong and one-sided decision of the US government and call it to avoid from the thoughtless steps which will induce the chaos in the region.
